Who We Are

HelaBora (helabora.com) is operated by Ant vs Bear Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales. Our registered address is available on request at privacy@helabora.com.

HelaBora provides free financial calculators, comparison tools, and educational content for users in Kenya and East Africa.

What Data We Collect

Data you provide voluntarily

  • Email address — if you subscribe to our newsletter or download a guide
  • Calculator inputs — salary amounts, loan amounts, etc. entered into our tools. These are processed client-side in your browser and are NOT sent to our servers unless you use the AI chat feature
  • Chat messages — if you use the AI chat widget, your messages are sent to our server and processed via the Anthropic (Claude) API
  • WhatsApp messages — if you message us on WhatsApp, your phone number and messages are processed via Twilio

Data collected automatically

  • Usage data — pages visited, tools used, time on site. Collected via Vercel Analytics (privacy-focused, no cookies)
  • Device information — browser type, screen size, operating system. Used to optimise the site for your device
  • IP address — used for rate limiting and security. Not stored long-term

Data we do NOT collect

  • We do NOT access your M-Pesa transactions or mobile money data
  • We do NOT access your CRB/credit score (we provide guides on how to check it yourself)
  • We do NOT access your phone contacts, SMS, or call logs
  • We do NOT use tracking cookies or third-party advertising trackers

How We Use Your Data

  • To provide and improve our calculator and comparison tools
  • To send you financial guides and updates (only if you opted in)
  • To respond to your AI chat or WhatsApp queries
  • To analyse site usage and improve our content
  • To prevent abuse and ensure security

We do NOT sell your personal data to third parties. We do NOT share your email address with banks, lenders, insurers, or any financial product providers unless you explicitly click an "Apply" link and submit your details directly to that provider.

  • Anthropic (Claude) — AI chat processing (USA, SOC 2 compliant)

  • Supabase — database (AWS eu-west-1, SOC 2 compliant)
  • Resend — email delivery (USA)
  • Pexels — stock images (no user data shared)

Sponsored listings are clearly labelled. Our comparison rankings are based on publicly available product data (rates, fees, features) and are not influenced by commercial relationships.

Data Retention

  • Email addresses: retained until you unsubscribe
  • Chat messages: retained for 90 days for service improvement, then deleted
  • Usage analytics: aggregated, no personal identifiers retained beyond 30 days

Your Rights

Under the Kenya Data Protection Act 2019, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your data
  • Withdraw consent for email communications at any time
  • Object to processing of your data
