How Your Salary Deductions Work
Every employed Filipino has three mandatory contributions deducted from their salary, plus withholding tax:
- SSS (Social Security System): Provides retirement pension, sickness, maternity, disability, and death benefits. Both employee and employer contribute.
- PhilHealth: Government health insurance covering hospitalisation and outpatient care. 5% of salary (shared equally).
- Pag-IBIG / HDMF: Housing fund that also provides home loans, multi-purpose loans, and calamity loans. 2% of salary (max ₱5,000 base).
- Withholding Tax: Income tax under the TRAIN Law. First ₱250,000/year is tax-free. Progressive rates from 15% to 35%.
